Matt, these are all awesome. Thanks for posting these, and keep it up I wanted to comment on the Hale-Bopp one in particular... I think that one is my favorite. It's not nearly as beautiful as the others as far as colors go, but it's something about how the trees are just silhouettes against the green backdrop, and the comet in the middle... It's an awesome pic.

Thanks! ;D These photos are stunning! Reminds me of one of my life ambitions which is to see them in real life, maybe somewhere up in the artic circle or lapland! Till then... great explaination of the phenomena as well...

Hey guys, I've been checking out this forum for the first time and couldn't quite believe to find one of my pics posted here (posted 01/24/02 "There's just something about a green aurora over water.. Hey it's me again... please don't miss the Perseid meteor shower tonight and tomorrow night! They can be seen from everywhere! (weather permitting) best times to spot meteors: -Monday morning 2 a.m. to dawn -Monday evening half an hour after sunset until 10/11 pm (for colorful so called earthgrazers!) -Tuesday morning 2 a.m. to dawn they look like this: good luck and enjoy the show(er)
