Ok, is this the answer?
You would ask the statues:
"Are there two statues in the room right now?"

that question determines which statue is the statue that lies, and which is the one that tells the truth, but it doesn't tell you which door leads to freedom and safety. what is one question that does both those things?? i have no idea!! pleaseeee don't make us suffer any longer

that's a clever question, but not the solution. let me clarify my hint a little: you have to get the lying statue to lie about what it would say in terms of choosing the door.
damn, i'm totally giving it away now.

the answer to the riddle is:
There is no answer!!! It's a catch-22, and you will have a 50/50 chance of making it out of the room no matter what.
for those who believe the above statement do not read the next post.

"If I had asked you yesterday, 'Which door will lead me to freedom,' what door would you have pointed to?"
think about it.
then go tell this riddle to everyone you know and frustrate the hell out of em.
