This is the result of a strange burst of experimentation with my digital camera. Danny thought I should post it here so you guys could take a look. --Flashpoint (Matthew Craig)

That's cool. You did that with just a digital camera? Impressive. Thanks for posting it, I'll be trying to figure out what it is for a while

Well before you think about it too hard... it STARTED with the digital camera. The final product was the result of some time in Paint Shop Pro. It's also less complicated that it looks. --Flashpoint (Matthew Craig)

Well hopefully this won't spoil the fascination. ;D It's actually a picture of my fireplace all decked out in Christmas lights. I was goofing around just trying to get different aspects of light/shadow (strange angles/perspectives, closeups of bulbs, ect ) when I got the wholly unoriginal idea to perform some acrobatics with the camera.
The streak patterns I saw captivated me, so I decided to see what could be done with them. All it took was a little color tweaking and several different styles of black paintbrush.
Personally what I enjoy about the image isn't so much how I made it, but the fact that I managed to bring out a strange anthropomorphism in it. That - and I really do love those streaks.

when i first saw the pic, it sort of looked like a weird female ghost to me, but i sort of brushed that thought off when i looked at the more detailed parts of it. then, when i saw the word "anthropomorphism," i sort of was like, hmmmmm... and it made me think about it, and, although i don't think that particular descriptor is 100% accurate, it made me relook at the picture, and yes, there she is. so, while it may not be the most applicable of words, i do believe that you did bring a little bit of anthropomorphism out of that pic.
the bottom line is that is one wicked, phat pic.
peace. hd

I'm not sure there's another descriptor that quite embodies the image.. but then again, I've been operating on 2 hours sleep all day. ;D

Matt- THAT IS SOO COOL! Strangely, I thought just about the same thing as Doug, except that I thought it looked like a dancing Ice Fairy well done! L.
