Okay, I love Sting - totally. Love the Police too, but let's face facts - the Police was Sting. I listened to "Fields of Gold" a lot out in CA. It seemed to fit the scenery well - listen to it when you're driving through a desert in the middle of the night sometime, and it's breathtaking. My favorite Sting song is not one of his most well-known, or one of the most exciting, but I love and can relate to the lyrics. It was one of those songs that just GOT me. "Why Should I Cry For You?"
Under the dog-star sail Over the reefs of moonshine Under the skies of fall North-north-west, the stones of Faroe
Under the Arctic fire Over the seas of silence Hauling on frozen ropes For all my days remaining Would north be true?
All colours bleed to red Asleep on the ocean's bed Drifting in empty seas For all my days remaining Would north be true? Why should I, why should I cry for you? Dark angels follow me Over a godless sea Mountains of endless falling For all my days remaining
What would be true? Sometimes I see your face, The stars seem to lose their place Why must I think of you? Why must I? Why should I? Why should I cry for you? Why would you want me to? And what would it mean to say, 'I loved you in my fashion?' What would be true? Why should I, why should I cry for you? Why should I cry? That song says so much.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with Dana. Sting is one pretty bad-ass dude. He ranks up there with artists like U2 in respectability and work. I also agree that Fields of Gold is an excellent song, although, I'm not sure I can quite pin down one particular song that's my favorite... he makes so many different kinds of music it's hard to choose. Ballads, regular pop, psuedo-contry, electronic/world music (Desert Rose kicks ass!!!), and many others. I dunno, but he is good.

Ok, this thread has has sent me on a huge Sting/The Police bender.. I'm really glad I brought those mp3s in to work. (Damn you working on Sunday! DAMN YOU!!!!) Is it me, or is "Ten Summoner's Tales" just an insanely good album? I love how he manages to be cheeky, poetic, somber, and lighthearted all at the same time. As a side note (not to turn this into a "favorite Sting songs" thread LOL!!) I think my favorite is still "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You". I find myself relating to the lyrics more and more with every listen - and there have been a TON of listens over the past 8 years. --Flashpoint (Matthew Craig) <br>

"If I Ever...." is my 2nd fav Sting song (used to be my fav before the above one caught me this summer) and is, to me, the perfect Mulder/Scully song (yes, I'm obsessed. ) Ten Summoner's Tales is, IMHO, one of the best pop albums of all time, but I have kinda fallen in love with "Brand New Day." And if you haven't checked out the remix of "Desert Rose," it's definitely worth a listen.

D'oh! I just realized A&E is running "Sting in Tuscany" right now. Hopefully they'll run the thing again sometime tomorrow.
