thanks, y'all i spent most of the day on a train, then spent a lovely evening with an arguing family, but apart from that (!) i had a good birthday.

and yes, i can drive now. whether i can be bothered learning is another matter

if you learn to drive and get a car, then you can go places like, oooh, i dunno...sydney? much easier and more often!

and i think dan was slightly embarrased at being sung happy birthday right on midnight by me and a bunch of friends outside the capitol theatre after seeing natalie merchant...

Is it so hard to get a driver's license in Australia? I heard it's a royal pain in Germany.

it's actually really easy. you have to do a 2 day course called Road Ready, which is theoretical stuff, and then you can drive as long as you have a licence-holder in the car. you only have to be 15 and 9 months to do that. then at 17 you can get tested for your proper licence which allows you to drive alone.

if you buy me the car, dan, i'll learn to drive it and come and see you more often
