Sick...

this is effing ridiculous! i've been sick for 5 days now! people at the school alex and i go to are dropping like flies with this flu bug.... and it's sneaky, too. there aren't many "classic" symptoms, like a runny nose or sore throat. you just get an incredible lack of energy and your need for sleep increases a ton. you get hot flushes, migraines... general yuckiness that makes your body feel like it's shrivelling up.

i think i'll go back to bed now.... i have to do a big assignment on Brave New World for tomorrow... grrrr.....

"brave new world" is by aldous (Sp?) huxley, yes? i haven't read that one...i think i read 1984 though.
ah, the joys of school english *reminisce*

you wait until you get to do "rozencrantz & guildenstern are dead". its hilarious! i was also very good at it. any tips, just ask me lol. assuming that you get to do it of course. "hamlet" is also surprisingly enjoyable, assuming you do shakespeare.

why have i turned a thread about illness into english texts? maybe i'm ill...

I've read 1984 and Brave New World, and can safely say that Orwell was MAJORLY influenced by Huxley (who wrote BNW decades earlier). BNW, however, is more arresting, more complex and far less "suitable" for "schools", (7 year-old kids encouraged to eroticize each other under the watchful eye of authorities brainwashing them with the use of electrical shocks, anyone?), which prolly accounts for 1984's dominance of the "future gone horribly wrong" market.

on the sick front, i took a day off school and slept all morning. i feel a bit better now

p.s - yes, mister, i've done Hamlet. i'm lucky that i'm at a school where i can tailor my english classes, so i'm opting out of Shakespeare for the rest of my high school days (i did waaaaay too much in drama and english classes at grammar). sorry, i won't be able to beg you for your almighty assistance

oooh i loved doing shakespeare. we actually were trying to do macbeth in year 7, but the english dept told our teacher not to i did get a merit certificate and a mars bar for learning the "shall i compare thee..." sonnet off by heart.
i don't like romeo and juliet much though. probably because its a bit overdone. my favourite shakespeare (not studied, sadly) would probably be "the twelfth night". but you can't go past "titus andronicus" for what probably passed as hardcore porn back in billy's day.

I'm not technically sick at the moment, but somehow I have managed to completely stuff up my lower back so I look like Grandma-Rala when I walk around at the moment! Sooo embarrasing! And sooo painful.. I've never really had a prob with my back before and now it's just buggered itself up for no real apparent reason *grrr*

PLUS I need to move several heavy and large items this weekend as I am moving house!

So sorry I haven't been around...have had two very busy weeks, and then of course I got sick...it always happens. I've been pretty bad and I have a 100 deg. temp now, so I'm going to bed. Just wanted to let you all know where I've been.

Yes Sir-Dan!! Orders taken! Hehe.. well I am hoping to be better by Saturday.. I went to the Doc today and he gave me pain killer and anti-inflamms and said that the amount of time till full recovery is indefinate *grumble*

Ooo and I have an 'exercise sheet' which I have to comply with every morning, funfun. At least I am looking a little less granny-rala like today.. woo!
