I just went and saw this for the 2nd time tonight (yeah, didn't make it to "Waking Life" - the turkey made me too sombulant for the 1 1/2 hr drive to Nashville to the one decent theatre in TN. ) Thoughts (some spoilers, but nothing huge): - I have read all of the books and am a big fan - I think it's great how the books have actually made the Pokemon Generation read something with big words in it. And the best thing about the movie is that it's almost exactly what I pictured the book being (when I read, I always visualize in movie form anyway.) - The problem? It didn't get the WHOLE book. Some of the most interesting parts IMHO (such as Harry meeting Draco) were left out, and others (Harry getting his Nimbus 2000) were changed. However, if I had made the movie, it would have been 5 hours long and there would have been nap time. - The best part of the movie was the casting. Harry is perfect, as is Ron and Hermonie. And seeing John Cleese was a hoot. - "Lord of the Rings" is gonna RULE. "It will not do Harry, to dwell on dreams....and not live."

finally got round to seeing this too. i love it! i think it kicks ass! full of quirky Englishness, with wonderful casting (EVERY actor was just right), heaps of eye candy and enough substance to keep the film engrossing. i haven't actually read the books, so i can't comment from an "enlightened" perspective i'm sooo glad it was made in England. the English in-jokes and English cast (the English everything, really) rocked. and the kids were tres cute, especially the lil ginger kid (ron?). kickass! 9/10! ;D

Dan, you LOOK like Ron. No wonder you like him! I love Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings about equally, but for different reasons. LOTR was a huge fantasy story. However, I have not been back to see it and I have seen Harry twice. I think Harry was easier on my brain.

dan, sorry, the only way you will get me into harry potter again is if you either pay for my ticket or drag me in chained and gagged. okay it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't anything spectacular.
will report on dan=ron situation later lol.

speaking of people resembling movie characters..... Scarydan reminds of Samwise Gamgee from LOTR!
